NBA NEWSLETTER

Thank you to everyone that took the time to complete our recent online survey. The results are now in, and will go a long way to deliver better outcomes for NBA members.

We asked members which areas they would like to see the NBA work on during 2018, with the overall goal of enhancing the value and benefit of being an NBA member.

The top 3 focus areas voted on by members were as follows:

The NBA Management Committee is now actively using this feedback to set the working agenda for the remainder of 2018. The top 3 focus areas will be our priority, ensuring our work delivers the best value and benefit to our members.

Thanks again for your involvement. If you have any questions or queries please feel free to contact myself or any of our other Management Committee members.

‘The Guest Wifi Experts’

Time Out Internet is Tewantin based and specialises in Guest Wifi and Internet Management Systems. With 45 sites in the Noosa Heads area, 95 on the Sunshine Coast and 165 across Australia, they are the guest wifi experts and can help with all your requirements.

7 day support is offered to you and your guests and they answer their phones!

Time Out Internet have launched a new In Room “At Home” TV Experience management system for accommodation providers to make the transition easy to offer their guests the entertainment they want, when they want –  the latest trend

Most sites are getting rid of Foxtel and PABX’s to invest that money into better wifi and internet for guests.

GUEST ENTERTAINMENT – EVERYTHING A GUEST NEEDS TO ENTERTAIN THEM IS IN THE PALM OF THEIR HAND BUT THEY NEED YOUR GUEST WIFI.

BYOC – Bring your own content- everyone’s doing it!  Guests have access to absolutely anything they want by connecting to the internet on their devices through your guest wifi.  But they want to watch it on your TV in their unit/hotel room.

The whole family generally has subscriptions for services on the devices and their favourite shows are saved exactly where they left off watching them at home.  Guests can simply sign into their streaming services for customised programming during their stay with you and carry on their binge watching.  This is how they now want to watch television.

The demand is huge for guests wanting to hook up their AppleTV’s, Telstra TV’s, Roku’s, Google Chrome cast’s and Home Assistants such as Google Home.  Most of these devices turn your TV into a SmartTV so they can access, cast and stream their own content.

The key – These devices MUST be able to connect easily

Our In Room “At Home” TV Experience allows for this, seamlessly. With no intervention required by staff at your site.

A site survey does not cost you anything and Time Out Internet will come to your complex and do a site survey and put together a guest wifi system to suit your business and a proposal that can be presented to the committee/Body Corporate.

Take notice – mandatory data breach notification laws have taken effect on 23rd February 2018

Cyber attacks are on the increase across all businesses. The legislation potentially effects every small business, and comes with some serious fines and disruptions.
Please find below a brief summary to help inform you about the changes to ensure you don’t breach.

• From 22 February 2018 the Privacy Act 1998 has been amended to include the Mandatory Data Breach Notification Law. This law now makes it compulsory for all data breaches relating to personal data to be reported to the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

• Previously, businesses were only encouraged to report data breaches and weren’t legally bound to report/inform customers.

• The new data breach law effects every organisation and/or business that handles any personal information.

• Businesses have a 30 day timeframe from the time they become aware of the breach to assess whether an incident is an ‘eligible data breach’, and if so, report it to the OAIC.

• Failure to act and report a breach attracts fines and penalties up to $360,000 for individuals and $1,800,000 for organisations.

 How to help avoid breaching:

• Back up everything frequently

• Be suspicious of emails and websites (increase employee awareness of what to look for)

• Use an antivirus program and activate firewalls

• Consider a cyber event protection insurance policy to protect your business, helping to cover notification, legal and breach costs, and costly disruptions and downtime affecting your business

• Never pay the ransom

• Always install updates

• Do not store any credit card details on websites

The NBA are proudly supporting this fundraiser and would like to invite members to purchase a ticket or even better, a table.

The Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club is holding a fundraising sportsman’s lunch on Thursday April 19th. The fundraiser is to support Sailability Noosa. What is Sailability Noosa you may ask? Sailability Noosa provides a sailing opportunity for people of all ages and with all types and levels of disability in order to bring joy, encourage development and the pursuit of new skills, and provide a broader life experience. Our clients come from various Disability Service Organisations or as private individuals, and they are normally accompanied by a carer who has responsibility for their welfare ashore. The program also relies on community minded volunteers who assist with the organisation and care of the clients while they prepare for their activity.

The Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club is proud to be able to offer this program to the community however it does come with a sizeable financial investment and this is where your support can greatly assist the club in offsetting a proportion of this.  The attachment will give you the details of the sportsman’s lunch fundraiser that will go a long way to keeping this very worthy cause operational. We are seeking your support through purchasing of tickets for this event, through a donation of an item for auctioning on the day, or even both. Please contact Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club.
